So much time that is better spent on governing the country goes to fundraisers. Instead, we get a climate where every day and event is a political opportunity to scrounge some donations, leading to insanity like this:
“Got a birthday, anniversary, or wedding coming up?” the [Obama] campaign wrote in a blog post. “Let your friends know how important this election is to you—register with Obama 2012, and ask for a donation in lieu of a gift.”1
“Plutocracy” doesn’t seem like hyperbole anymore.
